Culture 2000, international research project, Case Suchan Kinoshita

Together with several other European museums, SMAK is studying preventive conservation and the presentation of installations. Performance by the Japanese artist Suchan Kinoshita is the fourth work of art to be studied in Ghent.
‘Colonie 21’ - Steve Schepens

Colonie 21 is the latest project in the joint venture by the SMAK and the local authorities of Bredene. After the exhibitions Grasduinen 01 and 02, a programme of artists in residence is being launched. In autumn and winter 2005 several artists selected by the SMAK will each stay and work in Bredene for four weeks.

Since 2004 the S.M.A.K. has participated in the European joint venture on ‘the preventive conservation and presentation of installation art’. Five works from the museum’s collection have been subjected to thorough examination with an eye to preservation, good documentation and re-installation in the long term.

‘Trilogy of the reunion’ , De Tijd and Het Toneelhuis

In spring 2003 S.M.A.K. became the décor for Botho Strauss’ play “Trilogy of the reunion” (Dutch: “Trilogie van het weerzien”). The setting of the play, an opening of an exhibition with contemporary art, makes a production in a gallery very interesting. Before and after the presentation and in the interval people could visit the museum and the collection. The cast with actors and actresses of the companies De Tijd and Het Toneelhuis was impressive and was brought together especially for this occasion. Programming and organisation happened together with “Kunstencentrum Vooruit”.
