Pre-schoolers enter the museum with open minds and discover the wonderful world of modern art. Together with one of the museum guides they will ‘look at’ works of art, look for colours, shapes and unusual materials and so on. For many pre-schoolers this will be an unforgettable experience.

An active guided tour for curious kids!
The museum guide will take the little ‘experts’ around the museum. They learn to ‘look’ at art, are encouraged to ask questions and so form their own opinions. The theme of this tour is challenging activities. By ‘doing’ they unveil the mysteries of the art in the museum.

The Bridge

Circuit
The Circuit is a formula for young people on their first visit to the S.M.A.K. and youngsters who are already familiar with the museum. The Circuit is tailor-made to suit everyone’s tastes. A thematic approach enables works of art from a specific context to be looked at and analysed.

XL Circuit
XL for those who want just that little bit extra…
Although the Circuit does not end with a traditional workshop, there is a ‘dialogue’. Interaction, personal sensitivity and formulating personal views on art play a central role.

The Bridge
Modern art or fine art? With your museum guide discover differences, similarities and exciting stories that link early works of art and artists with those today. Here too ‘looking’ at modern or historical images plays a central role. How topical is Hieronymus Bosch? How timeless is Panamarenko? Jan Fabre suddenly seems very close to the court painter Anthony van Dyck. S.M.A.K. and MSK build ‘The Bridge’. Word and Image
‘Word and Image’ is an active introduction to modern art and contemporary poetry for young people aged 14 and older. A tour through the museum is combined with an excursion in the city. The thread running through this hunt is poetry and language. ‘Word and Image’ or looking at poetry and writing images.

walking and talking
Walking and talking at the S.M.A.K. has a lot to offer, irrespective of your field of study in higher education. Tours are adapted to students’ backgrounds and wishes. A focus on the S.M.A.K.’s exhibition policy? A greater understanding of the educational system, or an interest in conservation and restoration? All questions are welcome.

Teachers and teachers in training
Anyone can look. Looking a little longer takes a bit more practice. Each exhibition or the collection presentation focuses on new and different works of art. Find out about the various methods museum guides use – depending on the nature of the exhibition – to guide visitors. Learn to look actively at art so you can act as a guide for your own pupils.
